FAQ
Q. DO I have to pay for SOL?
Signs of Life offers free drug and alcohol treatment through the County of San Diego. You may be required to pay fees, or for drug testing as part of a court order; however, the program itself is free to all Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons seeking drug and alcohol treatment.
Q. What happens if I'm court ordered for treatment?
Signs of Life is a voluntary treatment program; however, we frequently provide services to clients who are court ordered into some type of drug or alcohol treatment.
Q. How long is the program?
Signs of Life believe that recovery is a lifelong process and offer ongoing services for those clients in need of additional support. Signs of Life is individually tailored to meet the needs of each client and goals are established with the client in the beginning of treatment. Traditionally, the program is 90 days of intensive group support followed by additional support for a period of up to 18 months. Additional support is available for those clients needing it.
Q. What do I have to do to graduate?
Sobriety is an individual process and you and your counselor will decide on your treatment goals together upon entering the program. Treatment may continue for up to 18 months depending on the need of the client and Signs of Life offers ongoing support for clients in the late stages of their recovery.
Q. Can my family, girlfriend/boyfriend/partner come too?
Signs of Life promotes the idea of having additional support from family, friends, and partners; however, we will not enroll a client into the program at the same time as their family, friends, or partner. Our goal is to provide support to clients and help clients build confidence witht their new lifestyle (during their recovery).
Q. What happen if I get in legal trouble while I'm in the program?
Signs of Life will not cease unless a court decides otherwise. Even in that event, if a client is seeking services, they will not be turned away.
Q. Am I required to attend 12-step groups like AA or NA?
While our program does not force clients to attend 12-step groups, Signs of Life staff feel 12-step groups are an integral part of a client's treatment and strongly encourage clients to take advantage of accessible 12-step groups available in the San Diego area and throughout the nation.
Q. Can I work while I'm in the program?
Signs of Life encourages clients to maintain routines which will help them to remain busy; however, participants working during the course of their treatment will need to be flexible to fit the program's structure.
Q. My family thinks I have a drug or alcohol problem. How do I know?
If you feel that you or a person you know might have a drug or alcohol problem, take the confidential, personal screening test at the following sites: www.drugscreening.org and www.alcoholscreening.org. Remember, only a professional can diagnosis a drug and/or alcohol problem and we encourage you to seek support.
